I had to post this picture that my adorable 8 year old grandson Cole took of me one day last week. I think he did a pretty good job except I have NO HEAD! When his grandfather asked him why he didn't include grandma's head in the photo he replied "Grandma HATES having her picture taken so I didn't show her head so she would like it!" LOL!!! Here is a picture (below the headless grandma)of my HILARIOUS Cole!

I have to admit it I am a HUGE LUCY fan & sometimes give up whole periods of time watching old Lucy re-runs! Whenever I have had an extremely busy week & need some down time with my T.V. it's always the Lucy Library of episodes that I reach for. My own life sometimes seems like an I LOVE LUCY episode. I'm always in trouble with my Ricky for indulging my passion for shopping & I sometimes am involved in some really hair brained schemes to get my own way when I am determined to do something that my wonderful hubby doesn't agree with, like~insisting that a couch be removed immediately from the family room & hubby telling me it can wait until later(big mistake!) and accidentally (on purpose) sliding it down the cellar stairs only to have it slip & CRASH into the wall & leave a HUGE hole! Or...promising & promising to get my Nordstroms credit card down to a nice zero balance only to find a "must have" new pocketbook or a fabulous pair of shoes that I just can't live without & thinking & scheming about how I can make it happen without breaking my promise(can't be done!) & then trying to sneak the goods into the house, only to be found out by my RICKY who sternly says TEENIE(my nickname) you've got some splainin to do!!!!I think Lucy did the same things with pretty things for her home too. Trying to hide them in plain site only to be found out & reprimanded by Ricky (again guilty!) I even have an "ethel" who I love dearly & who has been dragged along(somewhat reluctantly in the past) on some hilarious adventures with her friend "Lucy." Here are a few of my absolute FAVORITE episodes of my girl "Lucy" See if you can figure out which ones they are & if you can relate to this zany, but lovable wife & mother!!!
Ricky and Fred think doing housework is much easier than earning money. Lucy and Ethel feel the opposite. So the boys try doing the housework while the girls attempt to hold down a job at a candy factory.
When Lucy buys yet another new gadget, Ricky complains that she's "got no sales resistance."
Whether it's getting dressed or ordering dinner at a restaurant, Lucy seems unable to finish anything without changing her mind.
When Lucy buys a new sofa and coffee table without Ricky's permission, he says she'll have to pay for it out of her allowance.
Bored with married life, Lucy and Ethel decide that a few days away from their husbands would be a welcome change.
Ricky decides to fool Lucy into thinking she's won a new home furnishings contest. But the joke backfires when Lucy sells all their furniture.
Lucy & Ethel decide it will be economical to but a huge walk in freezer so they can buy large quantities of meat at a discount. The butcher misunderstands them & they wind up witah several hundred lbs of meat which they have to hide from Ricky & Fred. Lucy winds up stuck in the freezer. The way Lucy looks with the icicles hanging fraom her face is HILARIOUS!!
Lucy decides she just has to move to the country & schemes to make Ricky see it her way. After a bunch of misunderstandings with the sellers Lucy, Ethel & Fred dress up like gansters to try & get the deposit money back!
Lucy dresses up like superman after she promise little Ricky he will show up at his birthday party & ends up outside on the ledge.
How about the grape stomping episode & one of my very favorites,the VITAMETAVEGIMEN episode? Lucy & Ethel as martians as a stunt to raise some quick cash? Are you a Lucy fan & what are YOUR favorite epidsodes? Do your family & friends lovingly refer to you as LUCY as mine do? LOL! Instead of tuning into the news (which is always depressing) do yourself a favor & grab a Lucy DVD & pop it in & realize how much "LUCY" there is in you!

Getting Ready For FALL!

I Love to garden all summer long but, some of the best fun outside is getting ready for the FAll with Halloween decorating. I keep it simple & not overdone & try to create some whimsy while having fun! Getting ready for the big DECORATING weekend this weekend & will use lots of Cinderella Pumpkins, Shabby white pumpkins ,along with pretty mums, grasses & of course my favorite ornamental kale & Cabbage. These pictures are from last year & we are going to tweak it a bit this year! We'll drag out the witches & the funny ghoul who is smoking a cigar & all the other bits of whimsy we have stored in the attic for Halloween. We'll try to get a funny scarecrow man together in between the football games & the cheerleading & the usual weekend craziness with the grandkids! That's squeezed in with getting the boat winterized & the cottage in RI ready for Fall! We will somehow squeeze it all in & have fun doing all we have to do!! Back from a week at the beach & ready to get going again! I have so many pretty vintage items to list on my site & so much gardening & housework to catch up on! I am taking my grandaughter school shopping (I remember what it's like taking a 13 year old & I am aleady stressed out!) Of course the "cheap" stores won't do for her. LOL! She will go pick the money off of grandma's money tree in the back yard & off we'll go!! Last week we did a bit & before I could yank something off the counter & check it before it was purchased it rung up 70.00!!! That's for one shirt!!! I almost fainted & told her she has to do better shopping than that. Her grandfather surely would have fainted! Gabby is grandmas girl for sure though~It's so hard NOT to indulge your grandchildren! I was so much stricter with my own! School starts next week here & off they go~I can hear the YEAHS all over the neighborhood! :)Some pictures of my gabby & her best friend Nicole at the beach & one of grandma Lucy in shock over the price of school clothes!

I just got home from a full day of work in everyones gardens. I'm hot, dirty & hungry (I'm always hungry!) & I find this big box marked VERA WANG addressed to me!!! What can it be? I tear open the box & find the MOST EXQUISITE LAVENDER ROSES & a WONDERFUL LITTLE BOTTLE OF PERFUME appropriately named "VERA WANG" I couldn't figure out why I would be getting this lovley surpise & couldn't find the card. I was stumped. After really tearing the box apart I found the card with the most lovely note from my very dearest friend TARA of Bella Pink
She was congratulating me on the successful photo shoot of my back yard on Monday afternoon! Yup, that's right, I am going to be featured in one of Barbara Jacksiers wonderful books on Romantic Cottages!!! The first part of the shoot was the back yard gardens & the little cottage. The second part will be sometime in the fall of the inside of the house. It will take me all week to clean & stage for sure! Tara is busy doing some wonderful projects with Barbara & it's because of her that I made the connection with Barbara(who is such a lovely & talented lady!) Dan Mayers (the photograper)made the trip from New York to shoot my friends cozy waterside cottage,(more on that later) my backyard gardens, & then off to a shoot in Portsmouth, Maine. What a NICE guy~so professional, and so wonderful to talk with! Check out his website Dan Mayers Photography
Dan's photographs can be found in the following magazines~ Cottage Style, Romantic Living, Old House Interiors, Arts and Crafts Home and La Vie Claire. He has also done the photography for some beautiful books and is working closely with Barbara on the books that she is writing. I am so honored to be featured in one of Barbara's books & was in awe of Dan taking shots of my gardens & little cottage. I am going to be in very good company with the talented ladies that will be featured in the book. Tara was instrumental with hooking me up! On top of all that she knew how nervous I was about my very first photo shoot & how hard I worked trying to make my late summer yard pretty. (perennials & annuals tend to look tired just about now!) Thank you so much my dear friend for the lovely LAVENDER ROSES & all your words of encouragement!!!xo

We have owned a little lavender stucco cottage down in Rhode Island for 4 years now. It's two streets up from our private neighborhood beach & we look forward to going down there nearly every weekend from May until September. It's where we really relax & enjoy the water & puttering around our little home. Below are pictures of our shabby beach cottage~
My dear friend Roberta, owner of my FAVORITE shop Enchanted Treasures owns an adorable sweet cottage right ON the water in scenic Fairhaven Ma. She & her talented business partner & friend Martha have been in countless popular decorating magazines that have showcased each of their gorgeous homes. Since Robertas home is right on the water we just had to show you some wonderful pictures of her cozy seaside setting! The above pictures are of Roberta's cozy seaside home! Just look at her table set for tea by the water & the FABULOUS view from her cottage!!!

Even with the God awful hot weather here in New England my gardens & lawn continue to delight me! Each bed & container planting is prettier thatn the next & except for a few dry spots in the lawn it looks FABULOUS this year~So green & pretty (a rare thing for the middle of the summer!) Being busy with garden clients cuts down on my time in my own yard but you just can't tell this year! Everything is beautiful & I couldn't be happier!

~My Backyard Oasis~

Right now my backyard has never looked more lush & pretty! My backyard gardens are in FULL BLOOM right now & everything is just growing like crazy & putting on such a pretty show of pinks, lavenders, whites, yellows & purples & hot pinks! When I want to enjoy a quiet moment or just sit back after a long day of planting & maintaining my customers gardens, I like to sit out on my cozy deck. I have it just the way I want it right now with pretty pieces & even a pretty hand hooked rug right smack in the middle of the deck. I found a tablecloth that fit my round wrought iron table & bought some sweet shabby cushions for the chairs, added a wicker bird cage found at an antiques market & voila~a backyard room to sit and relax in! my husband teases me that even the deck has to be romantic. I just tell him that it's just an extension of our home so why wouldn't it be? We love having dinner out there & watching the hummingbirds on the coneflowers & on the butterfly bushes. Even the grandkids like to sit out here with their friends! I'm thinking of taking the deck down next year & just putting in a pretty blue stone patio so that the gardens & the seating area are all one. Who knows~it looks so nice right now we may just leave it alone & screen it in! The last picture is of me on my pretty pergola that is just wrapped in wisteria. This is near the deck on the other side of the house & divided by a pretty brick patio & walk that hubby just re-did. We love that area also! The wisteria provides such wonderful shade & when it's in full bloom just drips pretty purple blossoms! Hope all of you have a pretty backyard area to enjoy during the best time of the year! :)

Can't A Mom Dream?

Since this is the month of June~such a HUGE month for beautiful summer weddings, I thought I would show the GORGEOUS Manor House that I am dreaming of for my daughters wedding(she's not even engaged yet!LOL)This manor house is on property in Portsmouth, RI & was part of the private, catholic, all girls school that I attended my freshman year of high school back in the 70's! I would have graduated from this awesome school had they not closed the campus after my freshman year. The school was called "Elmhurst Academy" & I was so fortunate to spend even one year at this wonderful school. I made many dear friends there & did very well academically that year. I have such happy memories of my time here. The manor house was a mansion that was built in 1921 & was part of the campus at Elmhurst. It is set on the banks of the sakonnet river amidst manicured English gardens. My art class was held in a part of the mansion & we had our "teas" (or dances) in the ballroom with the neighboring private boys schools in the area. One day approximately five years ago, on the way to a favorite beach in Newport, I asked my husband to take the turn off the main road to see what had become of my school. I was Flabergasted to see the old manor house totally restored & more gorgeous than ever. I jumped out of the car & went to the front door & was met by the caretaker & his charming wife. I told them that I had gone to school here & they were delighted to take me on a tour of the restored mansion. I found out that weddings & special events were held there & that bookings take place sometimes two years in advance! They let us roam about the property & I was convinced that this is where at least one of my girls would be married! I couldn't think of a more beautiful spot or one that held such happy memories for me. So take a moment & visit their fabulous website & view a very pretty place to hold a wedding reception! Of course my daughter Kathryn & her boyfriend Mike aren't even engaged yet, but when they are, I will be ready to plan a beautful wedding at the beautiful GLEN MANOR HOUSE! :) ~such a special place~ visit here for their pretty site > Glen Manor House
